Washburn University has partnered with EAB to utilize the Student Success Collaborative—Campus (SSC), a platform that combines predictive analytics and communication tools for academic advising and tutoring. EAB also offers Navigate, an app that helps students see all the important things in one easy-to-view path and reminds them of what’s next. The goal for this partnership is to ultimately improve retention and on-time graduation rates by identifying areas of additional support needed for students to complete their degrees and suggest roadmaps to a degree based on their academic strengths and past successes.

At the core of the initiative is an innovative software platform representing a data-driven paradigm shift in how advisors:

  • Identify and prioritize students needing extra support in critical foundational coursework
  • Engage in conversations with students who may have greater success outside their chosen major
  • Simplify intervention by aggregating previously disparate data into a 360-view of student health
  • Evaluate and compare alternative major decisions based on predicted academic performance
  • Proactively contact students to arrange advising or other student support services

SSC is not intended to add complexity to your advising. Instead, it is intended to guide the prioritization of outreach to and interaction with your students. Our goal is to provide you with the necessary resources to successfully navigate the SSC platform.

If you are not currently utilizing the SSC platform, but are interested in doing so, please let us know. In addition, if you have any questions regarding implementation, best practices, or are not sure if the platform would benefit you in your current role at Washburn, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Advisor FAQ’s and Resources

Q: How do I get access to the SSC Campus Platform for myself or others in my office?

A: Please email SSChelp@washburn.edu.

Q: How do I log in to the SSC Campus Platform?

A: To login to SSC Campus click here.  The SSC uses the WU login system, so be sure to use your Washburn e-mail address and password.

Q: How often is the data in the SSC Campus Platform updated?

A: Data in the SSC is pulled from Washburn’s Data Warehouse nightly. Any changes made to a student’s record in Banner will be reflected in the SSC the following day.

Q: What does a student have access to in the tool? Will they be able to see everything that I can?

A: No, the student view is limited. Students only have access to schedule appointments.

Q: Are student notes subject to FERPA?

A: Yes, student notes in SSC are part of a student’s educational record and subject to FERPA.  For more information regarding FERPA, please click here or e-mail SSChelp@washburn.edu.

Q: How are student success markers determined? How is a student’s overall level of support determined?

A: Student success markers are determined by the Center for Student Success and Retention with multiple partners from across campus.

A student’s level of support is a qualitative measure determined by EAB’s predictive model, which incorporates over 20 data points on a student’s record, including but not limited to: attempted/completed credits, cumulative/term GPA, high school factors (school size, GPA, ACT/SAT scores), and demographic information. Based on the EAB algorithm, a student will then be classified as needing low, moderate, or high support. This information is only available to professional staff; a student does not have access to their own support level.

Q: Who or what determines how much access to data I have in the tool?

A: The SSC identifies different “roles” within the tool, which depend on your job responsibilities. If you are interested in how these roles are determined, please contact the Center for Student Success and Retention.

Q: Are trainings available?

A: Yes, there are various scheduled trainings throughout the year facilitated by our advising ambassadors. Additionally, there are a variety of resources and guides on the site for users to review. The SSC Help Center is also a great resource for tips and tutorials – just click on the “?” in the top right corner when you’re logged into the platform.

Q: Who can I contact if I have additional questions about the tool?

A: Contact the SSC Team at SSChelp@washburn.edu.
