Applied Media
Undergraduates with majors outside of Mass Media often pursue careers that require skills taught in Mass Media courses, such as crafting effective mediated messages, managing social media campaigns or shooting and editing videos.
The minor in Applied Media allows students to gain knowledge about digital tools and acquire hands-on skills that they will use to pursue the requirements of careers in their chosen majors. Students will complete 18 credit hours: MM 100 Introduction to Mass Media, MM 199 Media Bootcamp, MM 202 Creative Media Writing, MM 321 Visual Communication or MM 222 Cinematic Storytelling and an additional 6 credit hours selected in consultation with a Department of Mass Media adviser.

Auto Collision Repair
Washburn Tech is one of the area’s top collision repair schools. Our program will prepare you with technical knowledge and skills to repair, reconstruct and finish automobile bodies. Automotive Technology
The program prepares you with the knowledge and skills to repair, service and maintain all types of vehicles. Unlike auto repair schools in the past, Washburn Tech provides training that uses high tech diagnostic and repair tools on a fleet of late model vehicles in a new, cutting-edge facility. Instruction includes basic theory and familiarization of automotive components, engine repair and performance, steering and suspension, automatic and manual transmission, brakes and electricity/electronics. Cabinet/Millwork
Woodworkers plan and complete cabinetry and furniture, as well as complete millwork projects using computerized machines. They cut, shape and assemble wooden articles as well as setup and operate a variety of woodworking machines. The cabinet and millwork program provides both theory and hands-on instruction. You will learn to work with blueprints, specifications and shop drawings, as well as operate power tools and equipment in design, layout and construction of projects. Our instructors emphasize selecting proper materials, determining the best procedures, manufacturing parts to specification, assembling and finishing. You will work both individually and in teams to plan, estimate and execute projects.

Education
Teacher education at Washburn is a college-wide endeavor. All students seeking an initial license complete a well-rounded sequence of general education courses delivered by arts and sciences departments and all students complete a professional sequence of courses delivered through the Department of Education. Teacher candidates pursuing a kindergarten through grade six (K-6) license complete appropriate specialty courses offered by the Department of Education and receive a Bachelors of Education (B Ed) upon completion of required courses and clinical experiences. In the process of completing the K-6 program of study, teacher candidates choose one of five complementary options, four of which lead to a second teaching license. Candidates may choose to pursue a program of study leading to a birth through grade three license or a middle school (5-8) license in English, History, or Mathematics. The middle school license is delivered collaboratively between the Department of Education and the appropriate departments offering content for the 5-8-subject area. As a fifth option, candidates may pursue course work leading to a provisional license in special education. Completion of this license takes place at the graduate level.

Film and Video
The film and video concentration gives students an opportunity to gain both the technical and creative skills to be successful in the film and video industry. Courses emphasize each stage of the digital filmmaking process: pre-production, production, and post-production. Areas of study include but are not limited to: screenwriting, video editing, cinematography, sound recording, documentary filmmaking, and studio production.

Forensic Anthropology
This degree is the first bachelor-level Forensic Anthropology concentration in Kansas. Our majors will take classes, and get hands-on training, in our new lab in the state-of-the-art Kansas Bureau of Investigation Forensic Science Center on Washburn’s campus. They will also collaborate with faculty and students in the other forensic programs such as chemistry, biology, criminal justice, and computer science. Students may even have the opportunity to intern with KBI forensic scientists at the new facility.

Crime scene investigators (CSIs) use science, critical thinking, and specialized tools to collect the facts and physical evidence present at a crime scene. CSIs work with law enforcement agencies to assist in putting the pieces of a criminal puzzle back together.

Game Design
If you want to work in the growing field of game design, this minor will provide a strong foundation you can tailor to your area of interest. This minor will fit particularly well with the requirements of a major in art, computer information science, mass media’s film and video concentration, or mathematics but is open to students in all majors.

General Business
The major in general, business allows you the flexibility to design a 24-hour upper-division program using courses from several or all major areas in the School of Business based on your own interests and needs.
Learning objectives for the general business concentration:
- Apply quantitative and qualitative analysis and critical thinking to business problems.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the application of ethical concepts to business issues.
- Apply technology to the solution of diverse business issues and problems.
- Explain the relationships among the functional areas of business.

General Sciences
An alternative program to the Bachelor of Science described above is the Bachelor of Science in General Science. A student may elect this program by substituting the following requirements for the major and minor requirements listed above. The candidate must take at least eight hours of course work in each of the subject areas of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Information Sciences, Mathematics and Physics/Astronomy. These hours must be in courses that would count toward a major in each of the respective departments. Also, an additional 20 hours of course work that would be appropriate for majors in the listed departments must be completed by the student, at least 12 hours of which must be in upper division courses. Students desiring middle school teaching certification in General Science should contact the certification office in the Department of Education for specific requirements relative to that certification. Candidates for this program should meet with the chairperson of the Natural Science and Mathematics division no later than their third semester to complete a declaration of major card.

Health Care Post Graduate Certificate
The post-graduate certificate in healthcare education is available to students pursuing the Doctor of Nursing practice and to students who have completed a clinical masters or doctorate degree who would like to pursue a career in education at the postsecondary level. The 9 hour certificate includes courses in foundational theory, assessment in healthcare education and curriculum and instruction. Nursing graduates are eligible to sit for the CCNE exam on completion of the sequence.

Health Science
The Master of Health Science (MHS) in Health Care Education mission is to prepare existing health care professionals to be effective teachers and leaders who are capable of serving diverse learners within health care organizations and allied health degree programs.

Kinesiology
Kinesiology is an academic discipline concerned with the study of physical activity and human movement and its impact on health, society and quality of life. This minor is constructed around the premise that a broader understanding of the issues facing Latin America, the Caribbean and the Latino/a population today is crucial in the global community. The Leadership Studies Minor and Certificate are interdisciplinary programs open to students in all majors and degree programs. The Leadership Studies Minor and Certificate combine academic, co-curricular and community leadership experiences.
The Leadership Studies Minor is designed to be completed concurrently while earning a baccalaureate degree. Students completing an associate degree or baccalaureate degree are able to earn a Leadership Studies Certificate.
Leadership Studies Minor and Certificate requirements must be completed at the time of graduation. These programs provide graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to be effective leaders in government, business, not-for-profit, educational, and civic settings.

LL.M. in Global Legal Studies
Washburn Law's LL.M. in Global Legal Studies is for prospective students with a foreign law degree. This program, in addition to offering the usual career paths, also will prepares graduates to work with or across from U.S. counsel in a variety of transactions or disputes. The program allows students to build a course of study uniquely tailored to their interests and goals by pursuing a general track of study, as well as specialization in oil and gas law; corporate and commercial law; public law; and in legal analysis, writing, and advocacy.

Nursing (LPN-BSN)
The LPN articulation program at Washburn University is designed specifically for practical/vocational nurses to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN). The basic program is four academic years in length. Qualified licensed LPNs may receive 18 hours of college credit for required coursework.
Clinical placements for nursing students are located throughout the Northeast region of the state. It is likely that you will be asked to commute to at least one clinical site outside of Topeka.
Graduates of the program are prepared as generalists in nursing and may function in a variety of nursing roles. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to sit for the National Licensing Examination (NCLEX) to be licensed as a registered nurse.

Machine Tool
In this program, you will learn to read technical information on blueprints along with sketching, angles, tapers, gearing and precision measuring. Instruction also includes hands-on training in the operation of machine tools, such as the engine lathe, milling machine, surface grinder, drill press, computerized numerical control milling machine and computerized numerical control lathe. A career as a machine tool technician is cut-out for students who enjoy using their hands to make something work. MINOR
A minor can be developed in creative advertising, public relations, contemporary journalism or a combination of these areas. This option consists of 18 credit hours. Medical Laboratory Science

MRI
Magnetic resonance (MR) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a procedure that uses pulses of radio wave energy along with a magnetic field to image a specific body area. Structure and function of the body are then presented as cross-sectional anatomy images. MR has greater soft tissue contrast than CT, thereby creating detailed images.
Technologists employed in magnetic resonance imaging may work in hospitals, imaging centers. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, technologists with certification in more than one diagnostic imaging area such as MR will be more marketable.
