About the Summer Academy

Summer Academy is a FREE 6-weeklong residential academic and college-prep camp held at Washburn University for Upward Bound (UB) participants attending Topeka High. Incoming freshman to incoming seniors in the program are encouraged to participate. All meals will be provided.

Students may register for all 6 weeks and those who attend four out of six weeks will receive a $60 stipend. Students can choose between the Day Camp which runs from 8:00am-2:30pm each day Mondays-Thursdays and 9am-12pm on Fridays or can apply to live in the dorms Sundays-Fridays each week. Upcoming 9th graders for the 2025-2026 school year must apply and be accepted into the Upward Bound program BEFORE starting Summer Academy.

Academy details

May 26th – July 3rd 8am-2:30pm Mondays-Thursdays and 9am-12pm on Fridays (Day Camp Only Option-students may be dropped off as early as 7:30am for breakfast)

May 26th – June 12th Sunday Evenings – Fridays at 12pm (3-week residential program- only offered to upcoming 10th-12th graders)

Summer Academy will observe the following holidays:

Weekly field trips

Summer Academy instruction will occur in the LLC and Plass Building on the Washburn University Campus. Students who attend Summer Academy are eligible for a weekly field trip.

Field trips are FREE for Upward Bound participants!
