Richey Scholarship

The Richey Scholarship is Washburn’s premier scholarship and is awarded to students who have achieved at the highest level academically and demonstrated the potential to contribute to the Washburn community. Renewable for four years, the $7,000 award can provide $28,000 in assistance towards your first undergraduate degree. The award replaces the Freshman Academic Scholarship. To receive this scholarship, you must live on campus.

Application process

Who’s eligible: You must have a GPA of at least 3.9 and an ACT score of at least 28. Your official high school transcript must be on file no later than January 21, 2022.

How to apply: Application is by invitation only. For high school seniors graduating in spring 2022, invitations will be mailed out by December 20, 2021. Submit your completed application packet to Dr. Richard Liedtke at

  1. A cover letter stating why you’re the best candidate for the Richey Scholars Program and why Washburn University is a good fit for you.
  2. A completed Richey Scholars Program Application
  3. A completed application essay
