All leadership and community engagement students are eligible for scholarships
The Aleshire Center has committed to creating a structured learning environment that fosters and encourages student leadership development and community engagement.
Application materials are made available in September for the following fall.
Incoming student scholarships

April 21 Scholarship recipients announced
Direct from high school and transfer students coming to Washburn University are invited to complete the incoming student application. These are competitive scholarships suitable for students who exhibit leadership initiative and seek additional leadership development opportunities during their college years. Most scholarships start at $1,250.
Eligibility criteria
- 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale for high school students
- Cumulative 3.0 GPA for transfer students
Requirements
- Attending Washburn University full time (at least 12 hours per semester).
- Achieving satisfactory annual progress toward earning a Leadership Studies minor or certificate as indicated in the Satisfactory Annual Progress section below.
- Maintaining at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- Completing the required activities of the Aleshire Center, including, as a minimum:
- Completing LE100 during the fall semester, if not already completed, the first year of receiving the scholarship.
- Attending Fall Kickoff and Spring Kick-off (August 23, 2024, and January 25, 2025)
- Attending four (4) Aleshire Center events/programs per semester. Examples (All Center Meetings; Volunteer Experiences; Scholarship Interview Day; Team Engagement; etc.)
- Volunteering for the Leadership Challenge Event™ at least 2 hours on March 7, 2025, and complete all tasks related to the assigned role.

Current Leadership Institute students with a 3.0 GPA and are active in the Leadership Institute are invited to apply for a Leadership Institute scholarship. These are competitive scholarships suitable for students who exhibit leadership initiative and seek additional leadership development opportunities during their college years.

- Cumulative 3.0 GPA
Requirements
