All Aleshire Center for Leadership and Community Engagement students are eligible for scholarships.

The Aleshire Center has committed to creating a structured learning environment that fosters and encourages student leadership development and community engagement.

Application materials are made available in October for the following fall.

Direct from high school and transfer students coming to Washburn University are invited to complete the incoming student application. These are competitive scholarships suitable for students who exhibit leadership initiative and/or seek additional community engagement developmental opportunities during their college years. Most scholarships start at $1,250.

Eligibility criteria

  • 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale for high school students
  • Cumulative 3.0 GPA for transfer students

Requirements

  • Attending Washburn University full time (at least 12 hours per semester).
  • Achieving satisfactory annual progress toward earning a Leadership Studies or Community Studies minor or certificate as indicated in the Satisfactory Annual Progress section below.
  • Maintaining at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Completing the required activities of the Aleshire Center, including, as a minimum:
    • Completing LE100 or CE250 during the first semester, if not already completed, of receiving the scholarship.
    • Attending Fall Kickoff and Spring Kick-off.
    • Attending four (4) Aleshire Center events/programs per semester. Examples (Leaders of Tomorrow meetings; volunteer experiences; committee; team engagement; etc.)
    • Volunteering for the Leadership Challenge Event™ at least 2 hours.
