Lauren Edelman

Meet Our Staff

Lauren Edelman, Director

2014 to present

Dr. Edelman joined the Washburn University Leadership Institute as the Associate Director in 2014 and began serving as its interim director in August 2019. She was appointed Director in 2020. As director, Lauren oversees both academic and co-curricular leadership development programs. Additionally, Lauren teaches several courses within the Leadership Studies Minor and the Masters of Communication and Leadership Studies. She oversees the development and execution of pillar programs such as the Leadership Challenge Event(tm), the High School Leadership Academy and provides leadership for the Leadership Institute Advisory Board. She also provides mentorship to the three Leadership Institute Fellows. At Washburn University, Lauren serves on the Washburn Leadership Retreat Planning Committee, High Impact Community Engagement Practices Committee, and University Honors Advisory Council. She was a participant in the Leadership Washburn class of 2014-2015.

Prior to starting at Washburn, Lauren served as the Assistant Coordinator for K-State First, Kansas State University’s first-year experience program. In this role she coordinated the Guide to Personal Success mentoring program, which matched first-year students with K-State professionals for an interactive mentoring experience. She also worked as a Graduate Assistant with the College of Business Administration, New Student Enrollment, and the University Program Council at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Lauren completed her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Kansas. Her dissertation explored the relationship between leadership development programs and the development of the psychological capital constructs of hope, resilience, and self-efficacy in college women. Lauren earned a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Media from Washburn University.

Lauren and her husband, Kyle, have two daughters, Logan and Ava.

Madeline Lambing

Madeline Lambing, Program Coordinator/Lecturer

July 2018 to present

Madeline Lambing joined the Leadership Institute as the Program Coordinator/Lecturer in July, 2018. Maddy's responsibilities include serving as an advisor for the Student Leadership Council and providing mentorship for the student facilitation of programming and outreach efforts within the university and Topeka community. Maddy also assists in the planning and development of the Leadership Challenge Event™ and the High School Leadership Academy and works with Leadership Institute students on various campus and external programs. Additionally, she teaches LE100: Exploring the Concept of Leadership, and coordinates LE400: Leadership Internship. Maddy serves on the Washburn University Diversity & Inclusion Committee, Washburn Leadership Retreat Planning Committee, and the TARC Foundation Board in Topeka.

Prior to starting at Washburn, Madeline served as the Student Activities Coordinator for Rogers State University. In this role she advised the Campus Activities Team, planned multiple university-wide events, and coordinated Hillcamp, RSU’s orientation program. She advised Greek Life and the Intramurals program while at Rogers State University. She also worked as a Graduate Assistant with the Student Union Activities Board and Camp Cowboy at Oklahoma State University. Maddy has facilitated numerous leadership programs through various national organizations.

Madeline has a Master of Science in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Student Affairs and College Student Development from Oklahoma State University, and a Bachelor of Architecture from University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Maddy enjoys running, biking, reading, and traveling to new and exciting places. She and her husband, Levi, live in Topeka.

Gayle Davis

Gayle Davis, Administrative Specialist

2008 to present

Gayle Davis is currently the Administrative Specialist of the Leadership Institute. She supports the Director, Associate Director, and Program Coordinator in all office operations. She works with the Student Leadership Council of the Leadership Institute to aid them in accomplishing their tasks. She oversees the student workers throughout the semester and works with event planning for the Institute. Gayle promotes Washburn University and the Leadership Institute throughout campus and the community by providing information and answering questions at various venues and informational meetings.

Gayle holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oklahoma State University in Vocational Home Economics Education. Since teaching in a public high school, she has spent many years as an office assistant with the last nine at Washburn University Leadership Institute.

Gayle enjoys reading, cooking, sewing and traveling with her husband to see family and friends. She and her husband, Jay, have resided in Topeka since 1987 and have three children and 11 grandchildren.
