Career Accomplishments
Dr. Coleman Scott is Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Washburn University in Topeka, KS. Originally from Frankfort, KY, Dr. Scott is a graduate of Louisiana State University (LSU) where he received a Doctor of Musical Arts in Trumpet Performance with a Minor in Music Theory. Dr. Scott served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at LSU, where he assisted in teaching undergraduates in the trumpet studio, and performed with the graduate brass quintet. His academic training also includes a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Kentucky, and a Certificate in Baroque Trumpet from the University of Kentucky.

Dr. Scott has taught at the two oldest summer music programs in the United States, the Interlochen Arts Camp and the Stephen Collins Foster Music Camp, where he has taught students from around the world including Switzerland, China, and Poland. Prior to his appointment at Washburn, Dr. Scott served as Lecturer of Trumpet at Mississippi State University, and is a former performing member of the Lagniappe Brass Quintet, the faculty brass quintet of the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM). Additionally, he has appeared as a guest soloist with both the ULM Wind Ensemble and ULM Brass Ensemble. He has been invited to present masterclasses at universities across the United States, including Columbus State University, the University of Mississippi, the University of South Alabama, McNeese State University, Alcorn State University, and Southeastern Louisiana University. Dr. Scott’s students have been invited to compete at the National Trumpet Competition, played in honors ensembles such as the Louisiana Youth Orchestra, Central Kentucky Youth Orchestras, and all-state band/orchestra ensembles, and been accepted into collegiate music programs and awarded scholarships.

Dr. Scott has performed professionally with the Monroe Symphony Orchestra, the North Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, the Tupelo Ballet, the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, and the Mountainside Baroque Orchestra. He also maintains an active freelance schedule as a jazz musician.

Dr. Scott is a recipient of the International Trumpet Guild’s annual Young Artist Award, and has been named a “Kentucky Colonel” by Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear; the highest title of honor bestowed by the Governor of Kentucky.
