Career Accomplishments
Jami Hamilton-Ansley has spent the majority of her career working as a School Social Worker. When her daughter started kindergarten, she left the schools to have more flexibility in her schedule and worked part-time providing mental health consultation services for Head Start programs on both sides of the state line while teaching yoga to children and adults. This lead a full-time position as a Mental Health Specialist for Head Start in east central Kansas. She has also done work on the side for years as an individual and group therapist at Turning Point, utilizing play, expressive arts and mindfulness-based techniques to facilitate classes for people living with chronic illness. Jamie worked for several years as a school social worker in the Shawnee Mission School District while earning her doctorate degree. Her dissertation was on historic research on mindfulness in schools. Currently, she is employed full time as an Assistant Professor in the Social Work Department at Washburn University, while providing therapy in a private practice in Kansas City. She teaches yoga in her spare time and loves to cook, hike, travel and write. Jami utilizes a strengths-based approach to working with her students, clients, and families and her passion continues to be a combination of mindfulness and expressive interventions, assisting people of all ages in reaching their happiest and favorite potential.
