The Law School Early Admissions Program (LEAP) is one of only a few accelerated Bachelors (BA) and Juris Doctorate (JD) degree programs in the United States. This program is uniquely designed for talented students who know early on that they want to go to law school.

All LEAP students must still apply to Washburn Law and be awarded admittance based upon their merit. Additionally, if for some reason students decide they no longer want to LEAP they can easily exit the program and simply complete the credits needed to satisfy their Bachelor’s degree.

Washburn offers two LEAP tracks

Both programs require careful advising for students to maximize benefits associated with the program, ie do not take more undergraduate credits than are necessary.

Track one is a 3+3 program. Students in this program must complete three years of undergraduate education (or approximately 91 credit hours) and then begin WU Law, where their first year of law credits (approximately 29 hours) will count as dual credits for their BA and JD. Additionally, the track one LEAP comes with the added bonus of your first year of WU Law tuition free and an undergraduate law related mentor. LEAP students in good standing with WU Law will also receive at least $5,000 in scholarship for their second and third years of study. This program is available to students who major in an approved area in the College of Arts and Sciences at Washburn.  These majors include: Anthropology, Art, Biology, Communications, Economics, English, History, Mass Media, Modern Language (Spanish or French), Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Religion, Sociology, Theater, and the Bachelors of Integrated Studies.

Track two is a 3 1/2 + 3 program. Students in this program must complete 3 ½ years of undergraduate education (or approximately 105 hours) and then begin WU Law, where their first semester of law credits (approximately 14-15 hours) will count as dual credits for the BA and JD. This track does not include scholarships or mentorship, however students may be awarded scholarships based upon merit upon acceptance to WU Law.  Tier two is available to students who major in a degree from the School of Business, or the School of Applied Studies with degrees in Legal Studies or Criminal Justice.

Admissions requirements for LEAP

Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA or an ACT score of 28. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, so there are no deadlines to apply, however interested students should apply early so that proper advising can be provided to ensure that students enroll properly.
