Top 3 reasons to choose Summer School at Washburn:
We get it. It’s summer, and you’d rather be on a beach or a mountaintop. But it’s important to stay focused on your graduation goal, even in the summertime, so you can finish your degree in a timely manner (and then have the salary to take that five-star vacation). Consider these three reasons why summer classes are for you.
- With Summer School, you can catch up, stay on track, or get ahead.
Did you have a rough Fall? Or, did you change your major this spring? We understand that the path to on-time graduation is not always linear. Your academic advisor can talk to you about how to use the summer term to stay on track for graduation, or get ahead on your major courses. Learn more and connect with your advisor.
- Summer School lets you study online, on purpose.
In a post-pandemic world, take online classes with confidence. You are now a master at Zoom, D2L, and online assignments, and your faculty know what works best in online classes. Take courses that have been specifically designed for online, and stick to your graduation plan on your schedule. Check out the summer schedule.
- The summer term gives you options.
Have you been putting off a class because you know it will be a lot of work (College Algebra anyone?) Take it in the summer so you can fully dedicate yourself to it. Summer also lets you take that class that sounded awesome, but didn’t fit into your schedule. (History of Rock and Roll anyone?) Or, you can use the summer to get some requirements out of the way so you can keep your options open down the road. Talk to your advisor today about how to use the summer term to dedicate yourself, explore, or plan for the future.
Ready to move forward? We’re with you. You’ll need to meet with an academic advisor before you enroll. Here’s how in three steps:
Step 1: Make sure you have the Navigate app. You can download Navigate in the App Store or Google Play Store by searching for “Navigate Student.”
Step 2: Open your Navigate app and go to the Resource tab. You will find a list of your advisors and instructors at People.
Step 3: Schedule an advising appointment in Navigate. This PDF explains how.
You can enroll in classes if you apply to Washburn as a non-degree seeking student. Explore what’s available this summer and apply as an undergraduate non-degree-seeking student.
This summer may be a great opportunity for you get back to the books if you have some credits.
Your best first step is to contact Tracy Routsong at 785.670.2233 to arrange a phone or Zoom appointment. She can help you determine your fastest route to a diploma so you have the information you need to decide what’s next.
Washburn’s online summer courses are offered in five-week and eight-week blocks. Washburn faculty teach these courses completely online. These are not CEP courses, you’ll be in class with college students and you’ll be one, too.
- Try something new. Washburn’s online offerings are broader than your high school can provide. (Cultural Anthropology or Intro to Forensic Biology await!)
- Get a jump on your college career. This is a great time to try a college class, with college peers.
- Stay on your game. Keep your brain engaged over the summer and be ready to jump in when you head back to the classroom.
