Follow this Graduation Checklist put together for Psychology Majors in their Junior & Senior Year
Junior Year
- After Fall semester begins, create a Degree Audit to determine what requirement you need to complete to earn your degree: (1) Log into MyWashburn, (2) Find the Degree Works card (3) Click on “Degree Works” Then you should be placed directly into your Degree Audit. For more information, see the Degree Works FAQ.
- Using your Degree Audit, confirm courses that you have taken elsewhere have transferred into WU and fulfilled the correct degree requirement or elective.
- Make a midsemester advising appointment to ensure all degree requirements are met or to discuss anything strange in your Degree Audit.
- Finalize your Senior Capstone path. If you are not taking PY385 Classroom to Career, look for internship sites for PY336 Internship or identify your research project supervisor early for PY389 Independent Study/PY390 Directed Research (email relevant faculty for permission to enroll).
Senior Year
- Create another Degree Audit: (1) Log into MyWashburn, (2) Find the Degree Works card (3) Click on “Degree Works” Then you should be placed directly into your Degree Audit. For more information, see the Degree Works FAQ.
- Apply for Graduation by the deadline: Fall deadline is the first week of September; Spring/Summer deadline is the first week of February (Spring and Summer graduates walk in May).
- Pay attention to your emails – the Degree Auditors might email you and need a response asap.
- Order your cap and gown. Regalia should be purchased through the Ichabod Shop, but a pop-up Ichabod Shop will be on-site the day of Graduation in case you forget any items.
- If not completed during your junior year, confirm courses that you have taken elsewhere transferred into WU and fulfilled the correct degree requirements or electives using your degree audit. It is your responsibility to verify the courses that you are enrolled in at another institution will transfer in as the courses you need.
- Investigate and resolve incomplete grades. Work with your Advisor and/or the professor to make sure that you are on track to completing any incomplete grades before graduation.
- Present your research at a conference on or off campus and complete your optional WTE.
- Follow up with your Capstone course instructor on Meeting Capstone requirements.
- Follow up with your WTE supervisor and take the last step to fill out the Project Completion Form then pick up your Medallion from the WTE office.
- Submit your Psychology Honors and/or Distinction Forms if you qualify based on your degree audit. Be sure to discuss honors with your advisor so they know they’ll have to finalize the form.
- Honors / Distinction stoles/tassels - Once your Honors or Distinction is approved, stop by the Psychology Department to buy or borrow the commencement regalia.
- Complete the Graduation Requirement Exit Survey (15-25 minutes expected).
Day of Graduation
- Thank your faculty and staff who helped you achieve your goals.
- Graduates are encouraged to arrive wearing their academic regalia, as there will be no changing stations available.
- Regalia should be purchased through the Ichabod Shop but a pop-up Ichabod Shop will be on-site in case you forget any items on the day of.
- Please leave valuables at home, or locked in your vehicle, or with a trusted guest. There will be no storage.
