Mission

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is focused on the development of qualified sonographers who provide optimum patient care through technical competency and professional conduct. The program will provide the knowledge and cognitive skills underlying the intelligent performance of majors tasks typically required for an entry level staff sonographer.

The Washburn University Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

Program Goals

  • “To prepare competent entry-level general sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains” and/or “To prepare competent entry-level cardiac sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains” and/or “To prepare competent entry- level vascular sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.”
  • To prepare graduates with effective written and oral communication skills.
  • To prepare graduates with critical thinking skills.
  • To prepare graduates with professional work standards and ethics.

Student Learner Outcomes

PSLO #1: Demonstrate entry-level sonography skills in the cognitive (knowledge) learning domain

  • Performance Assessment: 75% of students will score an 84% or higher on sonography comps
  • Registry Exams: 75% or greater of students will pass registry exam(s)
  • Assignments: 75% of students will receive a mock exam grade of 76% or higher
  • Survey: 75% of students will score an 84% or higher on an entry level clinical evaluation

JRC-DMS Program Effectiveness Outcomes for Annual Report

  • Attrition rate will remain at 20% or below for a given graduating class.
  • Job placement rate will be 75% or better for any given graduating class.
  • Graduate survey return rate will be 50% or better for any given graduating class.
  • Employer survey return rate will be 50% or better for any given graduating class.
